MHS – established 1904

There is documentary evidence that the Society was founded in 1904 although there are references that suggest it may have come together, perhaps less formally, in 1900.

The Society is officially the South Merstham Horticultural and Cottage Garden Society although now we go by the rather simpler name of Merstham Horticultural Society.

The Society continued through the 1914 – 1918 war during which time members were requested to grow more vegetables. Meetings were suspended during the 1939 -1945 war but re-formed in 1947.
